Betty B. Tilton

Died: 1/16/2014

Betty Barbour Tilton, age 83, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her home in Zelienople.

Betty was born November 15, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Edna (Jacobe) and John K. Barbour. She grew up in Beechview and was a 1948 graduate of South Hills High School. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1952 and worked many years as a home economics teacher. Betty maintained a lifelong love of learning and was always keenly interested in health and nutrition.

Betty was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was married to her husband, Robert L. Tilton, for 48 years and he preceded her in death in November 2004. They lived much of their married life and raised their children in Wexford/Marshall Township. Betty and Robert were charter members of Wexford Presbyterian Church and Betty was an active church and community volunteer. She was a worldwide traveler and enjoyed staying active, both physically and mentally, throughout her life.

Betty will be remembered as a devoted mother by her children Keith (Kay) Tilton of Zelienople; Lisa (Gary) Treible of York, Pennsylvania; Gail (Michael) Peck of Columbus, Georgia; and Amy (Gerard) ElChaar of Vienna, West Virginia. She was dearly loved by her ten grandchildren and will be missed by nieces, nephews, and her surviving in-laws.

Visitation will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 East Grandview Ave., Zelienople, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, followed by a memorial service at 11:00. Private interment will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies to honor Betty and Robert, a World War II veteran.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to the Sjogrens Syndrome Foundation, Calvin Presbyterian Church, Zelienople, or Wexford Presbyterian Church.
