Paul R. "Spike" McElhinny Sr.

Died: 12/2/2016

Paul R. “Spike” McElhinny Sr., age 90 of Evans City went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2016, surrounded by his family and loved ones at his home.

Born March 28, 1926 in Lincoln Place, Pittsburgh, He was the eldest of 12 siblings born to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Hutchinson) McElhinny.

Spike was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church, Evans City.

He was the “Eggman” for several decades, delivering eggs and fresh sweet corn in and around the Pittsburgh area, retiring from the McElhinny Farms.

He also worked at Pittsburgh Farm Markets selling fresh Sweet Corn.

He volunteered at the Evans City Food Cupboard for ten years trucking bulk food.

He served as a Forward Twp. Commissioner for 20 years and was a member of the Planning Committee.

He enjoyed spending time in his shop working on trucks, cars and tractors.

Spike was a skilled woodworker and made a variety of projects from kitchen cabinets, a china closet and matching table and wooden cradles for all his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Allen McElhinny March 22, 1972; one son, Paul R. McElhinny Jr.; one step daughter, Alena Carney; three sisters, Isabelle “Fatty” McElhinny, Nancy “Din” Bogan and Rue Ann “Nick” Moore; two brothers, Samuel and Daniel McElhinny.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Habay Carney McElhinny who he married May 25, 1974; three daughters, Ann (Salvatore) Dino of Canonsburg, Joyce (Regis) Pascuzzi of Baden and Beth McElhinny of Evans City; four step-children, Eric (Diane) Carney of Cordova, TN, Michael (Donna) Carney of Elizabeth, Karen Carney of Pittsburgh and Debbie Carney of Canfield, OH; 8 grandchildren, Monica Carney of Memphis,TN, Luke (Traci) Berkopec of Deer Lakes, Allison (Brad) Allegre of Washington, Taylor (Patrick) Stewart of Washington, Lydia Berkopec of Evans City, Hayley (Deyi) Dino Awadallah of Falls Church, VA., Bethany Carney of Austin,TX, Patrick Pascuzzi of Baden; four great grandchildren, Alexis, Olivia and Jacob Berkopec, and Parker Stewart; four brothers, Ronald “Bones”(Millie), Jerome “Mulligan”(Marilyn), Zeno (Becky), and John “Twerp” (Carole) McElhinny all of Evans City; two sisters, Betsy”Gert”(Roy) Darling of New York and Patrice (William) Hughes of DE.

Friends and relatives of Paul R. “Spike” McElhinny who died on Friday will be received on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. from the St. Matthias Catholic Church, Evans City with Rev. James G. Young Administrator officiating.

Burial will take place in Brownsdale Cemetery.
