George W. Cook Sr., age 97 of Connoquenessing passed away on Saturday morning July 22, 2017 in the VNA Hospice, Butler.
Born in Pittsburgh, November 9, 1919, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Hazel I. Gensheimer Cook.
George was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing where he had served on church council and sang in the choir.
He had retired from the Pa. Railroad in 1981 with 40 years of service. He was a member of T.C.U. of AF of L-CIO Union and its Political Committee.
George proudly served in the US Navy during WW ll.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn J. Hummel Zehmisch Cook on October 11, 2013, also three brothers and three Sisters.
George is survived by one daughter, Joan Martin of Bethel Park; four step daughters, Linda (Vern) Thompson of West Sunbury, Anne (Bob) Burgard of Callery, Allison Zehmisch of Butler and Linda (John) Charpowtsky of NY; one son, George W. (Aline) Cook of Atlanta, GA; four step sons, Stephen Spisak of Connoquenessing, John (Irene) Zehmisch of Sierra Vista, AZ, Robert Zehmisch of Pittsburgh, and Michael (Jennifer) Zehmisch of Butler; one sister Mildred Findley of Oregon; one brother, Charles Cook of NJ ; 15 Grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives of George W. Cook Sr. who died July 22, 2017 will be received on Tuesday July 25, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, PA. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. from St. John Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing.
