Marjorie C. (Schmidt) Miller, lovingly known in recent years as Jori, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.
Jori lived a full and beautiful life, and she never lost her sense of adventure. She was always ready to try something new, go somewhere different, and embrace whatever experience came next with curiosity, courage, and joy.
She was born in Buffalo, New York, on March 19, 1930, to Reverend Wilfred and Luella Schmidt. On October 4, 1952, she married the love of her life, Seldon “Mike” Miller. They shared 45 years of marriage together; building a life and family that remained close to her heart.
Some of Jori’s happiest golden years were spent traveling the world with her brother Harry. She learned Italian for a trip to Italy, spent time in China, and took a cross-country road trip across Canada. She welcomed each new place and experience with energy and enthusiasm.
Jori also found a special home at the Passavant Community, where she enjoyed painting classes, learning about new religions, and making many treasured friends. Four years ago, she shortened her name and became known as Jori, a change that reflected her continuing spirit of reinvention. Even after a few setbacks, she remained open to new adventures. She was 94 when she got her ears pierced and just shy of 95 when she got a tattoo in remembrance of her husband, a lasting symbol of her love and fearless spirit.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mike; her brothers, Dave Schmidt and Harry Schmidt; her sister-in-law, Peggy Pagel; her grandsons, Nathan Killmer and Lucas Killmer; and her great-grandson, Joshua Hupp.
Jori is survived by her five children; Cathie, Mike (Terry), Pete (Cheryl), Rebecca (Mark), and Matt (Mary); her brother-in-law, Dave; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and even a few great-great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her adventurous heart, her love for her family and friends, and the way she kept embracing life in every season. She leaves behind so many stories, so much love, and a lasting example of how to live boldly and fully.
